Stout Oak Farm is a certified organic veggie farm in Brentwood, NH. I interviewed farmer Kate Donald about her beautiful old barn:

“The barn itself, which was originally built in 1803, burned down in the 1930s. This barn was being built on the same foundation when the hurricane of ‘38 happened, so a lot of the wood that was used to build this barn actually came from windfall trees because so many trees were down. So this structure itself has a really cool story too. When the (former owner) Lyford family comes to visit, they tell us stories about playing in the hay loft as kids, and all the time they spent moving hay and silage, and moving manure out of the barn. Now we’re trying to figure out how to use an old dairy farm for a new generation of farmers.”

This building now hosts a farm store and CSA pickup site, and I am so glad that new life is being breathed into these beautiful old walls.

This print is part of my local farm reduction woodcut series. Edition of 15 prints. 8”x8.”
